The Barnes Foundation
Primary Function:
The Barnes Shop Sales Specialist is responsible for delivering consistent and superior customer service in the Barnes Shop. To sell products that support the educational and revenue goals of the Barnes Shop.
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated sales and customer service success in retail environment
- A true passion for working with the public
- Cash handling experience
- Able to operate a computerized point-of-sale system with accuracy and reliability
- Strong verbal, telephone, and general communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Reliable, high level of personal integrity
- Ability to understand and apply a significant amount of detailed information
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work weekends, some evenings and some holidays, as needed
- High School graduate, or hold equivalent degree; some college experience preferred
- Background or knowledge in history, fine art a plus
- Bi-lingual or non-English language skills a plus

Moving:
- Ability to stand and walk for 8-hour shifts with minimal rest breaks.
- Approximately 90%+ of worked time is spent standing or moving around the work area. Ability to occasionally transport up to 25 lbs. of files, equipment or supplies.
- Ability to move to access files, equipment or supplies.
Vision Requirements:
- This position requires extended time on the computer.
Communication Requirements:
- Clearly communicate in person, by phone, and by video conference. Communicate with others in conversational and written English.
Working Conditions:
- Position operates in the foundation’s buildings and on the foundation’s grounds at the Philadelphia campus.

Job Responsibilities:
- Greets Customers, answers visitor questions about the store and its merchandise, including on product origins, makers, and connections to the Barnes collection.
- Provides a helpful, welcoming and informative environment for visitors to the Foundation. Answers general visitor questions about the Barnes Foundation, its collections, its history, visitor resources, etc.
- Operates Point of Sale system, including transacting sales (cash, check and credit card payments), counts money, provides change and receipts, and balances drawers.
- Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities to sell memberships to visitors and upsell existing members to higher levels of engagement.
- Follows Shop procedures for opening/closing tasks.
- Works with Supervisors to maintain the selling floor in a fully stocked and visually presentable condition.
- Delivers consistent levels of customer service that treat visitors with respect and reflect favorably on the Foundation and the Shop.
- Provides feedback on daily operations to supervisors at the end of each shift.
- Attends departmental meetings as an active contributor to the analysis of operations, suggesting improvements and solutions.
- Adheres to Foundation policies, including those regarding attendance, punctuality and dress code.
- Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
