The Counselor in Training (CIT)/Safety Technician teach vital and innovative life skills to people overcoming substance abuse twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. This individual is responsible for performing tasks that ensure clients are safe on the campus. The Counselor in Training (CIT)/Safety Technician facilitates proper care by assisting clients incorporate daily routines as a part of a client’s overall recovery plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists clients with following daily schedules.
  • Enforces client rules for program.
  • Conducts new admissions orientation multiple times a week.
  • Conducts searches of client rooms and client items.
  • Assists with organizing and scheduling drug screens for clients.
  • Assists with new admissions and discharges.
  • Communicates events of the previous shifts during shift changes.
  • Completes mandatory daily inspections and searches of client living quarters and fire safety equipment and fire log book.
  • Performs light housekeeping as needed for common areas and workstation.
  • Maintains and updates log book during shift.
  • Updates roll call sheets, the census, and finalizes emails to Counselors (or Counselor Interns) about the shift.
  • Communicates with clinical staff regarding client needs and behaviors.
  • Transports clients to hospital, doctor appointments, and After Care.
  • Attends client group meetings, lectures, and meetings as required and conduct didactic lectures.
  • Provides crisis intervention services and responds to emergency situations as needed.
  • Follows procedures in response to all emergencies and demonstrates calm and controlled behaviors during a crisis situation, properly documents the findings with incident reports and results of the response.
  • Must be alert for activities which could result in possible crisis and assist in situations in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Adheres to COVID-19 safety protocols, including monitoring isolation rooms for COVID-19 symptomatic clients.
  • Performs all other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
