Primary Function:
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Brand Engagement, the Digital Marketing Manager plays a key role at the Barnes and Calder Gardens by developing and executing digital marketing strategies that balance ambitious revenue goals with mission-driven messaging in a fast-paced environment. This role emphasizes the use of digital channels, particularly email marketing, to meet the needs of current and potential audiences, deepen engagement, and drive participation and revenue.
The Digital Marketing Manager aligns content strategy, brand storytelling, design, and analytics to build awareness, grow audiences, and position the Barnes as a thought leader in art and education, while establishing Calder Gardens as a top-of-mind destination for contemporary cultural experiences. A central responsibility will be leading the evolution of the institutional email marketing program—from newsletter-focused to a more dynamic, personalized, and automated strategy—while also launching and scaling email campaigns for the Barnes and Calder Gardens that support awareness, ticket sales, memberships, and programming. The Digital Marketing Manager serves as the institutional lead for email marketing technology, bringing martech expertise—particularly with Acoustic—to manage platform functionality, integrations, segmentation, automation, and performance optimization. The role is also responsible for executing, monitoring, and measuring performance across additional digital marketing channels, including paid social, search, and display, ensuring campaigns are data-driven and continually optimized.

Job Qualifications
Education/Training/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, design or related field and four years’ experience in a digital marketing communications field, advertising or communications agency, nonprofit or cultural marketing or similar environment OR six years related work experience for candidates without a bachelor’s degree.
- Technical expertise and comfort managing email marketing platforms like Acoustic, with experience in audience segmentation, automation workflows, dynamic content, deliverability best practices, data integration, and performance analytics.
- High technological proficiency and proven experience with automated email systems (ex: Acoustic, Mailchimp; Marketing Cloud), Adobe creative suite, Microsoft Office, project management tools (ex . Basecamp, OneDrive); HTML and website content management systems.
- Experience with Google Search, SEO/SEM, and Google Analytics, specifically establishing, maintaining, and analyzing website audience behavior through analytics dashboards like GA4.
- Experience in audience segmentation, automation workflows, dynamic content, deliverability best practices, data integration, and performance analytics.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with paid advertising on social media platforms)
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills, including copywriting experience.
- Background in art history, or experience writing for art/lifestyle/cultural/entertainment industries a plus.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with Director of Marketing and Brand Engagement and key cross-functional stakeholders, leads the evolution of institutional email marketing strategy toward personalization and dynamic content, with the goal of increasing earned revenue and participation across key audience touchpoints (visitation, programs, membership, adult education classes, retail, etc).
- Acts as the institutional lead for email marketing technology, bringing martech expertise to manage platform functionality, integrations and innovation that support audience growth and revenue goals.
- In close collaboration with key cross-departmental collaborators, leads the creation, distribution and measurement of all Barnes and Calder Gardens emails.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure that email marketing deliverables and deadlines are met, including coordinating campaign schedules and deadlines, and incorporating a proofing and feedback process
- Maintains institutional email content calendars and marketing databases.
- Recommends, implements and measures A/B testing and data analysis strategies for email in accordance with best practices for KPI conversion and in alignment with institutional audience goals.
- In collaboration with the Brand Engagement Manager and the Barnes’s external digital advertising partner, responsible for the planning, execution, trafficking, measurement of year-round cross-channel paid social, digital marketing and advertising for collections, exhibitions, programs, and other initiatives on behalf of the Barnes and Calder Gardens
- Collaborates with Brand Engagement Manager and Strategic Research Analyst to maintain a comprehensive marketing KPIs dashboard that includes data from all marketing channels
