Wilma Theater

The Wilma Theater seeks someone with an interest in learning about a Regional Theater Artistic department, with some administrative experience, to serve as Artistic Intern.

The Wilma Theater creates living, adventurous art, presenting bold, original, well-crafted, thought-provoking productions that represent a range of voices, viewpoints, and styles. The Literary Intern will contribute meaningfully to the organizational culture of the Wilma and will advocate to advance our values on an organizational, local, and national scale. This person will take part in cross-departmental work and company-wide EDI work as we further our commitment to being an inclusive, anti-racist organization.

Position Summary

The Literary Intern reports to the Artistic Associate and Literary Manager and supports the work of the Artistic Department, which also includes the Artistic Director cohort and the Associate Artistic Director.
Artistic Interns will assist the Artistic department in reading and reporting on scripts, helping to maintain our literary database, doing dramaturgical research related to the plays of our season, assisting with auditions, helping to maintain our actor database, assisting with special events, and performing clericals duties such as copying, scanning, and various other administrative tasks. Interns are also able to observe HotHouse Company sessions and rehearsals and may assist with administrative work to support the HotHouse Company, such as taking line notes on productions and general notetaking in meetings. Many former interns have gone on to graduate school and work at institutions such as Actors Theatre of Louisville, Playwrights Horizons and The O’Neill.

Position Qualifications

Candidates must have academic and practical experience in theater, and display strong written, verbal and analytical skills.
The ideal candidate is proficient in remote-work software and systems, with the ability to learn our CRM (Tessitura), Microsoft 365, and project management and video conference tools.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time (20 hours a week), temporary, non-exempt role with compensation of $15/hour.

Hybrid Work Environment

Due to Covid-19, much of the Wilma administrative staff is conducted in a hybrid environment of remote and in-person work, dependent upon role function and responsibilities. In consultation with your supervisor, it may be determined that some administrative aspects of your role may be performed remotely.
Some night and weekend work will be required.

COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

The Wilma Theater requires all employees, whose work requires their physical presence on-site at spaces managed and operated by The Wilma Theater, to be fully vaccinated and up to date with the Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster for COVID-19. Being “fully vaccinated” and “up to date” means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine and booster regimen.

In order to be qualified for employment at the Wilma Theater, final candidates must comply with the vaccination requirement or receive an approved exemption. Exceptions to this policy include:

  1. Employees who do not report to a workplace where other individuals (such as coworkers or customers) are present

  2. Employees who are working exclusively from home/remote environment

  3. Employees who have a documented and approved medical or religious exemption.
