Position Description

The Rosenbach Museum & Library seeks a Manager of Marketing and Communications to manage all aspects of the Rosenbach’s marketing and communications and strategy, ranging from social media and e-communications to marketing materials and plans. The ideal candidate will develop the appropriate communications initiatives for a wide variety of programs including courses, tours, lectures, and events. This position requires someone who is flexible and creative enough to stay on top of multiple projects simultaneously and who will produce high-quality, well written materials with little supervision. The successful candidate will convey the Rosenbach’s brand to its constituents and potential constituents, focusing on a strategic set of goals to drive audience engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Brand Management

    1. Manage and convey the Rosenbach’s brand.

    2. Maintain and update the style guide and all brand materials including logos and other public-facing graphics and language.

    3. Engage and work with graphic design contractors to create materials such as logos, signage, and mailers that are true to the Rosenbach’s brand.

    4. Review and manage the channels for approval for all public-facing materials created by Rosenbach departments or vendors.

    5. Manage branding on administrative materials like stationery and business cards. 

  2. Print and Digital Communications

    1. Oversee the design and development of all Rosenbach print and digital communications including program calendars and postcards, e-newsletters, and social media.

    2. Project manage the development of print and digital communications including scheduling production, eliciting content, facilitating editing, and overseeing dissemination.

    3. Oversee digital communications using the Luminate platform, and track the effectiveness of all campaigns.

    4. Create new strategies for print and digital marketing as necessary, working with Rosenbach team members.

    5. Maintain a strategic communications annual calendar.

    6. Working with the Director of Advancement, effectively determine how to use a small budget for the greatest impact.

  3. Marketing & Advertising

    1. Work with the Department of Outreach & Engagement to develop strategies that target a high-quality audience for programs and courses.

    2. Devise and implement advertising initiatives that align with the Rosenbach’s strategic plan drawing on an understanding of market trends to enhance our brand and build audience.

    3. Create a plan and track the effectiveness of all print, online, and radio advertisements.

    4. Work with marketing vendors for the most effective deployment of marketing dollars.

  4. Press

    1. Write and edit press releases and disseminate them to the appropriate media outlets.

    2. Work with senior leadership on press releases on various topics including those of high sensitivity.

  5. Website

    1. Maintain the Rosenbach’s website, including overall branding and updated page content.

    2. Manage the Rosenbach’s blog, including developing and eliciting content.

    3. Alert the public to closures and other events.

    4. Maintain staff and board listings.

  6. Signage

    1. Coordinate the design and prepare or elicit text for institutional signage including banners and A-frames, wayfinding, and recognition listings. Ensure branding consistency.

    2. Work with the staff on developing appropriate signage throughout the facility.

  7. Merchandise

    1. Coordinate with vendors—from graphic designers to fulfillment companies—to create evergreen and event-specific merchandise.

    2. Work with the Visitor Services Department to maintain appropriate quantities of merchandise.

    3. Make decisions about merchandise offerings based on budget and audience demand.

  8. Departmental and Organization-Wide Responsibilities

    1. Embrace the Rosenbach’s commitment to DEAI (below).

    2. Be a collaborative team member with the Development Department. Working with the Director of Advancement, contribute to the strategy around building a community of support and membership through various communications tools.

    3. Work very closely with the Outreach & Engagement Department to hone marketing strategies in hopes of increasing engagement with signature programming.

    4. Collaborate with three additional departments: Operations, Collections, and Education. 

    5. Contribute in meaningful ways to create a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful organizational culture.

    6. Contribute to strategic planning for the organization.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proactive communicator internally and externally

  • Excellent writer and editor

  • Ability to work independently and across departments

  • Proficiency with Luminate or similar online communications tools

  • Proficiency with Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and similar social-media outlets

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize responsibilities

  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner

  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work

  • Familiarity with nonprofit work environment, especially museums and libraries, a plus

  • Love of history and great literature

Compensation 

Salary range is $50,000-$55,000 annually for this full-time exempt position, depending on experience.
