WHAT YOU’LL DO

Vox Media is seeking a Supervising Producer to run The Verge’s premiere audio show: Decoder with Nilay Patel. You should have deep expertise in the technology and business space with experience producing best in class audio programming. This is a big opportunity to shape the future of The Verge’s podcast program. We’re looking for a highly creative individual with a proven track record producing ambitious shows and growing them to new heights.

In this role you will lead the development, production, workflow, and growth strategy of The Verge’s flagship interview podcast, Decoder. You will identify what makes the show a must-listen, book important and creative guests who represent the top of their fields, and create compelling episodic segments and series for the show. As Supervising Producer for Decoder, you’ll have the chance to shape essential conversations with the most important people in technology, and your work will lead to real impact and change.

What you'll do:

  • Make Decoder happen from start to finish. That means you’ll pitch, vet, and produce episode ideas; handle pre and post-production workflows, lead segment and script development, sound design/editing, and publish.
  • Be ambitious. Identify and book notable voices, and ensure Decoder has a diverse cast of guests.
  • Conduct reporting as needed and contribute tape-gathering.
  • Conceive, produce, and line-edit podcasts including writing rigorous but voicey scripts, sharpening angles, and coming up with new segments and formats
  • Supervise a small, ambitious team and be unafraid to challenge our guests and audience with tough questions.
  • Deliver the show to the audience, including articles and corresponding art on The Verge’s website, the podcast episode, and social marketing videos and posts.
  • Manage occasional video extensions of the show, including full YouTube video episodes and short form social videos to grow audience reach.
  • Coordinate with social and communication teams on episode promotion, and video team on production as needed.
  • Communicate with sales and ad teams when appropriate to assure all ad roll commitments are met.
  • Work with the Editorial Director of Audio to manage and hire as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for the show to evolve and grow, and execute on those ideas.
  • Facilitate regular evaluation and feedback of shows’ creative strengths and growth success.
  • Establish a culture of experimentation and lead evolution of show segments and special series over time.

WHO YOU ARE

The ideal candidate will have the editorial and audio production expertise required to pitch and run with technology and business ideas and turn them into a one of a kind interview show.

What you'll bring:

  • Expertise in technology and business journalism and storytelling, and a passion for the tech news and reporting that are core to The Verge.
  • Experience as the editorial/creative lead producer for a successful technology or business podcast or broadcast news program.
  • Background in audio production and creative show development.
  • Demonstrated skill in audio scripting and mixing.
  • A track record of developing content that draws on diverse perspectives/source lists.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, will the ability to juggle multiple things at once and work independently as needed.
  • A commitment to developing The Verge’s unique sound and voice in podcasting, and a determination to create podcasts that are different from anything else out there.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.

Pay Range
$90,000—$130,000 USD
