Guides Editor, Polygon

Polygon is looking for an innovative Guides Editor to join our team! As the Guides Editor, your core responsibility is to assign, edit, and publish video game guides content around new releases and ongoing games with consistent updates. In addition to working with Polygon’s team of guides writers and producers, you’re a primary point of contact for freelance writers and will grow the stable of diverse voices that contribute to Polygon’s guides program. You’ll standardize guide formats, explore new coverage areas, and experiment with different types of coverage. Additionally, you will partner with other editors during large releases to coordinate coverage across guides, games, and the news team. This role reports to the Executive Editor.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Use analytics and research to find new opportunities to expand guides coverage
Edit and develop Polygon’s team of guides writers, helping them brainstorm assignments and providing edits and feedback on written work
Grow a diverse team of freelance writers with a variety of expertise, including in ongoing games, tabletop, and other areas of Polygon’s coverage
Optimize and reprioritize content based on audience demand and recommendations from audience insights and SEO teams
Create templates for different types of guides coverage, making it easy for writers (staff or freelance) to join various projects
Oversee the guides team's editorial calendar in Asana
Solicit, edit, and publish freelancer content, maintaining contracts and ensuring freelancers are paid on time
Lead cross-team collaboration on high-level tips and strategy stories
Coordinate with the Reviews Editor on distributing review copies of games for coverage within both sections
Monitor search traffic and trends in player behavior to identify coverage opportunities.

WHO YOU ARE
You’re innovative, creative, and capable of developing a strategy for video game guides coverage. You understand the audience demands and also the strengths of writers on your team and strive to create the best coverage to meet the moment.
Experienced with setting content strategy for video game guides, and leading brainstorms for new releases and games that receive ongoing updates
Fluent in editorial analytics platforms
Understanding of SEO best practices and tools
Able to edit written content and provide clear, consistent feedback to writers
Able to source freelance writers from a diverse range of backgrounds
Capable of working independently and in collaboration with others
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

This job is remote.
