Wellspring Philanthropic Fund (WPF) is a private grantmaking foundation
\r\n
dedicated to advancing the realization of human rights and social and
\r\n
economic justice for all people. With offices in New York, NY and Washington,
\r\n
DC, Wellspring’s work is rooted in respect for the dignity and worth of
\r\n
every human being and is informed by the following beliefs:
\r\n
        • Social institutions and structures should promote the full realization of
\r\n
human rights and human potential and should be accountable to these ends.
\r\n
        • The rights of all people are advanced when the rights of the most
\r\n
marginalized and vulnerable peoples are protected.
\r\n
        • Social justice movements should employ means that are consistent with
\r\n
their ideals and should give agency to the people whose interests they seek
\r\n
        to advance.
\r\n
        • As responsible stewards, we must strive to maximize the impact of our
\r\n
        charitable investments.
\r\n
\r\n
Core to Wellspring’s commitment to human rights, the Sexual Orientation,
\r\n
Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Program seeks to confront and
\r\n
dismantle entrenched homophobia and transphobia and to build a world in which
\r\n
all LGBTQI people, including the most marginalized, enjoy full autonomy,
\r\n
safety, dignity, and rights. WPF now seeks two Program Officers to join its
\r\n
Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression Program (SOGIE). The new
\r\n
Program Officers will bring capacity and expertise to a growing team
\r\n
dedicated to changing the legal, social, political, and economic structures
\r\n
that currently undermine LGBTQI people’s full enjoyment of equality and
\r\n
justice. The ideal candidates will have deep knowledge of LGBTQI movements
\r\n
and bring leadership to a distinct portfolio of grants within one of the
\r\n
        following two portfolios:
\r\n
 Globally focused on LGTBQI people in migration with an emphasis on Latin
\r\n
        America:
\r\n
        • Improvement in the ability of regional and international asylum systems
\r\n
to respond to the needs of LGBTQI migrants, especially transgender & gender
\r\n
        nonconforming migrants.
\r\n
        • Greater protection from violence and increased safety and security for
\r\n
LGBTQI people in migration especially from Central America and at the US
\r\n
        Southern Border.
\r\n
        • A reduction in the detention of LGBTQI migrants and asylum seekers at the
\r\n
Southern Border and within the US.
\r\n
        • Intersection of economic disparities with LGTBQI livelihoods globally.
\r\n
 Domestically focused on a broad US based portfolio across LGTBQI
\r\n
        movements with an emphasis on:
\r\n
        • Domestic policy work at the state and federal level.
\r\n
        • Economic equity, empowerment, and inclusion related to LGTBQI people.
\r\n
        • Increasing the body of research and evaluation of economic policy
\r\n
        implications on LGTBQI communities.
\r\n
Each Program Officer will bring knowledge and familiarity in the core content
\r\n
areas of the portfolio specifically: (1) LGTBQI migration issues with Spanish
\r\n
language fluency required; or (2) domestic LGTBQI policy, economic justice,
\r\n
and movement work. As an organization dedicated to social justice, WPF
\r\n
strives to live the values they seek to cultivate within the broader society
\r\n
by applying principles of fairness, respect, and justice in their
\r\n
relationships with their grantees and collaborators, as well as in their
\r\n
internal management processes and structures. Successful candidates will
\r\n
embody WPF’s values and approach and be drawn to the opportunity to support
\r\n
this important movement work as a trusted partner.
\r\n
\r\n
WELLSPRING PHILANTHROPIC FUND & SOGIE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
\r\n
\r\n
As a private grantmaking foundation with a focus on human rights and social
\r\n
and economic justice, Wellspring Philanthropic Fund prioritizes work in the
\r\n
        following areas:
\r\n
        • Promote the realization of human rights and access to economic and social
\r\n
justice – including racial, gender, and economic justice – as reflected
\r\n
in global norms, national policies, and local practice.
\r\n
        • Expand the voices, dignity, and interests of the most marginalized and
\r\n
vulnerable communities, including women, children, people living in poverty,
\r\n
people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQI people, and people affected
\r\n
by armed conflict and mass atrocities.
\r\n
        • Encourage vibrant, responsive, and participatory democracy.
\r\n
        • Support the ability of people to hold governments and other powerful
\r\n
institutions and individuals accountable to the rule of law.
\r\n
\r\n
The Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Program seeks
\r\n
to eradicate the stigma, discrimination, and violence perpetuated by
\r\n
homophobia and transphobia. It celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQI
\r\n
community and recognizes that heteronormativity, misogyny, racism,
\r\n
xenophobia, colonialism, state violence, and white supremacy impact people in
\r\n
different ways. The Program centers LGBTQI people who face the greatest
\r\n
barriers – youth, transgender and gender nonconforming people, Black people
\r\n
and other people of color, and refugees and migrants. A world that is safe
\r\n
for the most marginalized among us means that we are moving closer to a world
\r\n
that is safer for us all.
\r\n
\r\n
The SOGIE Program believes that durable social change is rooted in strong
\r\n
movements, bold leadership, and transformative ideas. This is fostered by
\r\n
developing and supporting a vibrant ecosystem of diverse and effective actors
\r\n
dedicated to changing the legal, social, political, and economic structures
\r\n
that currently undermine LGBTQI people’s full enjoyment of equality and
\r\n
        justice.
\r\n
\r\n
Core to all work at WPF is a set of organizational and programmatic values
\r\n
that form the base for how they approach the work and serve as guiding
\r\n
        principles for Wellspring staff:
\r\n
        • Humility: openness to listening to and learning from groups and leaders
\r\n
working on the ground, from colleagues in philanthropy and across WPF, and to
\r\n
elevating the work of our grantees, not ourselves.
\r\n
        • Respect: for WPF grantees and colleagues, their perspectives, pressures,
\r\n
        and contributions.
\r\n
        • Teamwork: a desire to work collaboratively and supportively with
\r\n
        grantees and WPF.
\r\n
        • Curiosity: to explore, to learn, to adapt, and to innovate in developing
\r\n

        diligence; and write grant recommendations.
\r\n
        • Effectively manage grantee relationships, review progress reports,
\r\n
conduct evaluations of grantee programs, and monitor use of grant funds.
\r\n

relationships across sectors and seeking opportunities for collaboration.
\r\n

documentation, grant budgeting, data entry, and reporting.
\r\n
        • Collaborate with the department of Learning and Evaluation to develop
\r\n
ways to evaluate grants and share learnings.
\r\n
        External Relations
\r\n
        • Engage with peer funders and external stakeholders working in fields
\r\n
relevant to the SOGIE Program by sharing best practices and integrating new
\r\n
        learnings into the portfolio.
\r\n
        • Take part in creative use of learning processes, conferences, convenings,
\r\n
co-funding partnerships, pooled funds, and other tools to promote common and
\r\n
complementary grantmaking agendas and advance learning in the philanthropic
\r\n
        and advocacy sectors.
\r\n
        • Participate on panels at funder conferences and other learning
\r\n
opportunities highlighting WPF’s grantees’ work and progress made under
\r\n
        the program’s grantmaking strategy.
\r\n
        • Remain well-connected to key actors in the field and understand what new
\r\n
and deepening opportunities exist to lift up and support communities on the
\r\n
        ground.
\r\n
        Organizational Engagement
\r\n
        • Support and contribute to SOGIE Program team development and
\r\n
infrastructure, including weekly meetings and annual retreats.
\r\n

        for shared learning.
\r\n

        committees and/or task forces.
\r\n
        • Contribute to educating and engaging Wellspring’s donors, leadership,
\r\n
other staff members, and public audiences on issues and develop program
\r\n
communication materials, in collaboration with the team and other Wellspring
\r\n
        departments.
\r\n
