The museum has major<br />\r\n holdings in American, European, South Asian, and East Asian works including<br />\r\n prints, drawings, photographs, illuminated manuscripts, artist illustrated<br />\r\n books, as well as Asian scrolls and screens.<br />\r\n <br />\r\n The Conservator will collaborate with other museum staff to conduct research<br />\r\n to further understanding of the materials and techniques used by artists who<br />\r\n create works of art on paper. They will serve as an integral member of the<br />\r\n museum’s conservation staff and participate in activities relating to<br />\r\n exhibitions, installations, loans, preventive care of the permanent<br />\r\n collections, and professional and public engagement.<br />\r\n <br />\r\n Specifically, you will:<br />\r\n <br />\r\n Examine, conduct research, and perform conservation treatment on a broad<br />\r\n range of works of art on paper.<br />\r\n Assess the condition of works requested for loan or being considered for<br />\r\n acquisition and document the condition of incoming or outgoing loans.<br />\r\n Advise on housing, installation, storage, handling, packing, and transport of<br />\r\n works of art.<br />\r\n Collaborate with conservation scientists in chemical and instrumental<br />\r\n analysis and characterization of materials of works of art.<br />\r\n Conduct microfade testing of light sensitive works of art using a Fotonowy<br />\r\n Automated Fadeometer.<br />\r\n Mentor and train conservation junior staff, post-graduate fellows, interns,<br />\r\n and technicians.<br />\r\n Take part in ongoing preservation activities to contribute to the preventive<br />\r\n care of collections on view and in storage.<br />\r\n Participate as a member of the Conservation Division in a range of<br />\r\n institutional initiatives and functions, as well as in professional and<br />\r\n public engagement.<br />\r\n Other duties as assigned.<br />\r\n Your background and experience include:<br />\r\n <br />\r\n Graduate degree from a recognized Art Conservation training program, with a<br />\r\n specialization in works of art on paper.<br />\r\n Significant experience in the conservation of works of art on paper at an<br />\r\n advanced level of responsibility in a museum/collection setting.<br />\r\n Proven ability to plan and execute a variety of complex conservation<br />\r\n treatments.<br />\r\n Experience and training in the conservation of non-western works of art on<br />\r\n paper.<br />\r\n Experience/interest in microfade testing of works of art on paper.<br />\r\n Demonstrated visual, manual, and scholarly aptitudes.
