The Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by and for autistic adults. ASAN is a national grassroots disability rights organization for the autistic community. We fight for disability rights and work to make sure autistic people are included in policy-making, so that laws and policies meet our community’s needs. 

ASAN is seeking an experienced team member with skills in project and people management. They will work with ASAN’s Executive Director, Director of Advocacy, and Operations team. This is a full-time salaried position paying $80,000 annually. For reasons of fairness, we do not negotiate salaries during the hiring process. This position offers a comprehensive health insurance plan and other benefits including a 32-hour four-day workweek, retirement plan, dental insurance, commuter benefits for office-based employees, and up to 5 weeks of paid time off per year. This position is remote, with an opportunity to work in ASAN’s DC office if local. This is a union-exempt management position.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise 3 direct reports: the Community Engagement Manager, Programs Manager, and Development Manager
  • Be familiar with reports’ work portfolios and provide advice, oversight of project management, professional development, and annual reviews
• Meet regularly with Executive Director, Director of Advocacy and Director of Public Policy as part of ASAN’s executive leadership team
• Coordinate work among ASAN’s Grassroots team (Community Engagement Manager, Programs Manager, State Advocacy Manager, Grassroots Associate) to build robust, reciprocal working relationships with partner organizations and state and local advocates
• Oversee ASAN events and programs including:
  • Disability Day of Mourning
  • Teighlor McGee Minigrant program
  • Annual fundraising campaigns including April and End of Year
• Regularly meet with ASAN’s Development Manager to further ASAN’s fundraising and development goals and projects.
• Oversee ASAN’s network of affiliate groups and coordinate provision of technical assistance
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience Needed

• Excellent people management skills and at least 3 years’ experience as a manager
• Excellent project management skills and at least 5 years’ experience coordinating multiple projects at the same time and working to deadlines (school or non-related jobs can count towards this requirement if they involved deadlines and juggling multiple projects)
• Experience with the disability rights, self-advocacy, and neurodiversity movements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps
• Ability to take direction, take initiative, and work in a team    
• Track record of discretion and reliability in work and advocacy environments
• Willingness to learn about and respect the different access needs of self-advocates and work colleagues

Skills and Experience Preferred

• Connections within disability rights and disability justice movements
• Proficiency with work management platforms such as Notion or Asana
• Experience with fundraising, grantwriting, and other aspects of nonprofit development
• Experience with event planning and logistics management
• Experience providing technical assistance to small advocacy groups or local advocates
