• Dynamic, rockstar Jewish educator
• Teach daily in afterschool enrichment
• Recruit for afterschool enrichment and school’s out camps
• Collaborate on curriculum implementation and lesson planning, driven by goals for lifelong learning
• Create regular parent and family programming to bring families into the Jewish learning
• Support parents & build relationships with families
• Manage and implement COVID safety plan, with support from Executive Director
• Participate with ED in hiring process
• Supervise South Philadelphia staff using Asana for project management
• Oversee grant-related data collection
• Grant reporting
• Manage pickup logistics and schedules
• Manage staffing schedules
• Coordinate days off and substitute coverage
• Submit payroll hours
• Track PTO usage for f/t staff
• Structure and implement communications calendar (facebook, email, etc.)
• Budget management
• Supporting budget planning for upcoming year
• Update the board about South Philadelphia

A Day in the Life of our South Philly Director
You walk up to Makom Community past South Philly neighborhood coffee shops, bike stores, and book stores. You walk back to your desk at the rear of our space that we share with a start-up synagogue. You settle in to your desk for the morning, and review your list for the day. Before students arrive this afternoon, you’ll wear a few of the many hats you wear each day in this new location of Makom Community.
First, you’ll follow up with two families who came for tours last week to see if they would like to enroll in afterschool enrichment. Then you’ll make notes from each of those conversations in our CampMinder database. After that, you have a conversation scheduled with Beverly, the Founding Director, about some strategic and growth opportunities you’ve noticed. You’ll get to present those to Beverly and decide together about where to take them and what next steps are.

Following that, you’ll create lesson plans for the upcoming week and review your teaching notes for this afternoon, noting which pieces your co-teacher might enjoy facilitating and which ones you will facilitate. You’ll share in Asana that each of those tasks have been managed and see what messages might be there for you about projects you’re working on with other members of our team.

Then, you’ll get to prepare a report for your first board meeting with Makom Community’s board of directors to let them know how the first month has gone at our new location in South Philadelphia. That meeting will take place this evening after you teach.

Finally, it’s 2:45pm, and you get to walk in the sunshine to the school around the corner and pick up a group of kindergarten and first grade students, greet them with a smile, and hear about their day as you walk back to Makom Community. Once you and your co-teacher each have your walking groups back at Makom Community, everyone has snack and opens the day with Snacktime Learning. You facilitate that segment, and the Program Assistant is there to co-teach with you. Then, the students continue on to shulchanot avodah (learning centers) where they are exploring the day’s text in a variety of modalities, and you get to move from activity to activity with students and support them as they need. Then, you sing a melody to gather everyone to a carpet. Everyone gathers to sing, dance, and move during
Tefilah (services). Following that, there is time for homework and free play. As parents arrive, you get to share stories of amazing things their child(ren) said today and ask more about their lives at home, providing support as needed and building deep relationships with families.

Full-time
Salary $45,000-55,000/year, with annual increases based on increased
