How You Will Contribute

The Senior Graphic Designer provides quality control and an initial review of design work prior to final approval from Creative Director.  This individual is responsible for ensuring the materials are aligned with current brand standard and reviews the work to ensure there are no errors. 

Specifically, you will:

• Work with various internal and external contacts to execute and produce a wide range of graphic design projects for the Museum from concept to final approval, through final delivery and/or installation, often against tight deadlines.
• Act as a liaison between designers and the production manager to provide clarity as needed to produce the intended effect a designer is seeking. 
• Supervise and mentor a Design Intern
• Serve as liaison for designers and internal/external constituents as needed.
• Design for a variety of applications, including large-scale exhibit graphics and outdoor marketing, digital and online marketing; print ads and promotional items; printed publications; flyers; event signage; email; brochures; and invitations.
• Ensure quality vendor relationships working with the Production Manager, including pricing arrangements, sample requests, and researching new vendors as needed. 
• Remain abreast of trends, new techniques, and resources in graphic design.
• Participate in creative brainstorming sessions and work collaboratively with colleagues across the Editorial and Graphic Design team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
   

Your background and experience include:

• BA / BS in Graphics Arts or related discipline
• Over five years of graphic design work in a collaborative environment
• Proficient in digital design with one to two years of multimedia and interactive
• content design experience, UX experience a plus
• Experience with on-line media, having a basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and e-mail design
• Software mastery: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat),
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) in a Mac environment
• Previous experience working with large scale / environmental graphics
• Excellent communication skills (English) including writing and ability to synthesize and communicate design feedback from colleagues to the designer(s) and explain design decisions to colleagues in an easily comprehensible manner
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact well with others
• Proven abilities in project management and meeting deadlines
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to shift as priorities change
• High level of energy, confidence, and a sense of humor
• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
• Possess artistic clarity, creativity, innovation, and perception
• Must have a portfolio of recent work to demonstrate required skills and abilities

Position and Compensation Details

• The salary for this position is $54,000.
• This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.
• This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
• This position reports to the Director of Design
• Physical requirements:
• Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
• Able to move items up to 10 pounds
• COVID-19 vaccination required.
• Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
