How You Will Contribute

The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for developing, communicating, and coordinating the implementation of museum-wide human resources initiatives which support the museum’s mission and strategic plans. This position reports to the General Counsel and is part of the museum’s senior management team.

The successful candidate will be a systematic thinker who sees the big picture but is also focused on key HR functional responsibilities and activities. They achieve results through intellect, creativity, and personal warmth; is collegial and comfortable with others; and is astute at building effective relationships and credibility with a large and diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. This individual will work closely with all museum departments to ensure a positive working culture that aligns to the museum’s mission and values.

Specifically, you will:

• Develop and promote HR strategy and operations which support organizational goals.

• Partner with senior leaders to establish management practices that support positive employer-employee relationships and promote a high level of employee engagement.

• Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on all aspects of employment.

• Counsel management and staff on employee policies and procedures.

• Manage a team of HR professionals in implementing ongoing processes related to the employment lifecycle including talent acquisition and onboarding, performance management, employee relations and recognition programs, labor relations, benefits and compensation, and training and staff development.

• Evaluate and streamline current HR operational processes through creative problem solving and utilizing industry best practices.

• Maintain sound working knowledge of regulatory compliance including state and local employment laws, visa distribution, and residency requirements.

• Provide strategic direction and support to members of the HR team, ensuring high quality work product while growing and developing individual skills.

• Collaborate with individuals at all levels of the museum to achieve results and ensure goals are met.

• Participate in the annual compensation review process. Conduct market research and analyze compensation data and make recommendations for compensation changes as needed. Participate in annual salary surveys.

• Work closely with Benefits Associate on annual renewal of benefit plans. Benchmark plans and make recommendations for plan changes as needed.

• Participate and may serve as chair of internal museum committees such as 403(b) Retirement Plan Oversight Committee.

• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and participate in the grievance process as needed. May participate in collective bargaining negotiations.

• Along with Sr. HR Manager, oversee visa process for employees who require sponsorship.
  Work with the HR Team to plan employee events such as the employee health fair, holiday party and employee recognition events

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your background and experience include:

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Human Resources with progressively more responsibility and exposure to multiple areas of HR competencies.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field, or equivalent experience

• Experience leading an HR team.

• A track record of successfully leading human resources initiatives in a service-oriented organization of comparable size and complexity.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish credibility and rapport with employees of all levels.

• Strong customer service orientation.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.

• Experience in non-profit environment preferred.

• Experience in a union environment strongly preferred.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

• Proficient with or the ability to learn the museum’s HRIS. Experience with ADP preferred.

• Experience handling complex employee relations issues.

• Experience with performance management and disciplinary activities.

• Highly organized. Able to set priorities, manage time effectively, delegate where needed, and complete multiple assignments on time with a high attention to detail.

• Ability to maintain confidential information, be professional and tactful in all situations.

• Must be able to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.

Position and Compensation Details

• The minimum salary for this position is $150,000.

• This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.

• This position reports to the General Counsel

Physical requirements:

• Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and otheroffice equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus

• COVID-19 vaccination required.

• Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
