Reports to: Development Director (DD)

Classification: Full-Time, Regular, Non-Exempt, At-Will

Location: Remote, anywhere within the United States (outside the United States will be considered if feasible for the organization);

Office Hours: Monday - Thursday, 32 hours a week. Start and end times are flexible, but must be able to attend predetermined team and staff meetings.

Salary: $71,550 - $79,500 annually. The salary range is determined by Forward Together’s salary equity structure. Offers will only be made within this range.

Benefits: Benefits are generous, with fully paid employee and dependent coverage for health, vision, and dental; and long-term disability insurance. Paid time off includes sick days, vacation, and holidays. In addition, we close our offices for two weeks in December.

POSITION SUMMARY

Over the past couple of years, the Development Team has undergone major shifts in philosophy and approach to fundraising. Leaning into the tenets of Community Centered Fundraising, Resource Mobilization, and the Racial Equity and Liberation work held throughout the organization, we see the role of development in Forward Together and Forward Together Action as a team of resource organizers/mobilizers who can build power and transfer wealth to our communities. The approach of the department is to 1) deepen and develop authentic relationships with funder partners so we can build with other grantees for collective power; 2) build with our individual donors so we can deepen relationships and become their political home; and 3) work with other development people in an organizing/power building stance so we can strengthen the movement to transfer wealth and shift power.

As the Development Team re-orients its purpose from fundraising to a more expansive vision of resource mobilization, the Individual Giving/Major Donors Manager will partner with program teams to organize Forward Together/Forward Together Action's grassroots and monthly donors and deepen their participation in movements for social justice.

The Individual Giving/Major Donors Manager plays a key role in managing the growth and sustainability of our organization through integrated programmatic fundraising, building relationships with donors, designing and implementing direct donor organizing initiatives, making personalized fundraising asks, managing phone banks and researching prospective donors. The Individual Giving/Major Donors Manager will leverage the relationships they hold with program teams and donors to research and test a series of pilot initiatives to engage donors beyond charitable giving and towards transformational relationships with social justice movements, including but not limited to: donor education events, program-Devo collaborations, Giving Circle pilots, and/or phone/text conversations with donors.

The Individual Giving/Major Donors Manager plays a key role in managing the growth and sustainability of our organization by supporting the Major Gifts stewardship in partnership with the Executive Team with content, scheduling, logistical and data support. The Manager is responsible for building relationships with donors, making personalized fundraising asks, researching prospective donors and supporting logistics for fundraising/donor cultivation events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Fundraising

• Develop strategies to organize donors and ensure that fundraising efforts leverage and dovetail with the organization's programmatic plans and goals; works directly with program teams to identify strategies and opportunities for resource mobilization, including but not limited to phone banks, special events and joint political education initiatives.
• Experiments with opportunities to engage donors beyond charitable giving and towards transformational relationships with social justice movements, including but not limited to: donor education events, program-Devo collaborations, Giving Circle pilots, and/or phone/text conversations with donors.
• Supervises Development Coordinator in their work of donor stewardship, data entry, and donor systems; oversees the processing donations in EveryAction CRM; and supporting of grant managements in collaboration with the Grant Manager and Finance Team.
• Collaborates with the Development Coordinator and Communications Team to ensure alignment between direct and digital strategies in programmatic fundraising.
• Communicates regularly with donors and donor advisors through email, phone calls, virtual & in-person meetings, providing updates and regular opportunities for engagement.
  In partnership with the Development Coordinator, manages and operates the monthly donor program.
• Supports planning and implementation of donor events, briefings and presentations.
• Works with multiple staff to ensure that the development department has up-to-date programmatic information necessary for donor engagement.
• Maintains a sophisticated understanding of the EveryAction CRM, utilizing Moves Management tools to track major donor engagement.

2. Major Gifts

• Works with Deputy Director and Co-ED to develop annual major gifts plan, including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
• Facilitates major donors’ political journey by providing opportunities to engage in action, fostering connections with other donors and supporters, and nurturing growth and learning through donor education initiatives.
• Develops content for major donor communications.
• Researches prospective donors, primary user of systems like WealthEngine.
• Works with Development Coordinator and Executive Assistant to manage scheduling and follow up for major donor and funder meetings; tracks meeting notes and files Field Reports.

3. Building an Organizational Culture of Resource Mobilization

• Collaborates with the Development Team to build a Culture of Resource Mobilization that is grounded in racial justice.
• Provides leadership and training to staff on resource mobilization, including sharing of best practices and providing tools, information and resources to strengthen fundraising efforts, and providing opportunities for collective education on topics such as money, capitalism, and funding in the nonprofit industrial complex.
• When applicable, works with all staff to support participation and follow through on fundraising activities, including phone banks.
• Plans and oversees internal communication that informs staff of fundraising progress.
• Recruits and supervises interns or volunteers for grassroots fundraising activities.

4. Department Budgets and Administrative Systems

• Contributes to the development of an annual budget for grassroots fundraising.
• Oversees the Development Coordinator’s work in EveryAction CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) to track and manage donor and donation information.
• Effectively utilizes all financial and 501c3 and 501c4 related management systems. Examples include: accurate and on-time reporting of monthly credit card expenses.
• Accurately tracks and reports c3/c4 activities on timesheets.
• Creates, formats and tests donor emails and donation pages in EveryAction as needed.

5. Staff Teams

• Attends regular Hub meetings, keeping informed on programmatic activities and identifying opportunities to integrate fundraising.
• Meets with program teams to design collaborative grassroots fundraising plans.
• Actively participates in monthly all-staff meetings and quarterly strategy/evaluation sessions.
• Travels to other offices for strategy/evaluation sessions and for conferences nationally as assigned, for up to 4 days at a time.

OTHER DUTIES

• Maintains and updates contact information in the database for the individuals and organizations that this position works with.
• Utilizes direct communication and pro-active problem solving to address internal organizational challenges and disagreements.
• Works pro-actively and in good faith as a member of the staff team to support and strengthen the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization.
• Adheres to organizational values and practices around challenging oppression by exhibiting behaviors indicating inclusion and respect in all facets of the work (programmatic, operational, and interpersonal).
• Vendor and consultant management as needed.
• Lends a hand to other staff, on a case-by-case basis, when possible within work plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3 years experience in a development role, with an emphasis on individual fundraising.
• Committed to social justice and Forward Together and Forward Together Action’s missions.
• Experience working on behalf of diverse and underserved populations preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Highly organized and systematic.
• Strong initiative and self-starter with excellent follow-through.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, especially in writing, copy-editing, data entry and data management.
• Strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.
• Strong project management and problem solving skills.
• Good people skills and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work well in teams and use direct communication to express needs.
• Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
• Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web browsers, Gmail, Google Calendar and the basics of spreadsheet, database and video conferencing software.
• Comfort and experience dealing with numbers and elementary math.
• Experience with EveryAction, Salesforce or other database software strongly preferred.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
• Ability to travel, usually by plane, for up to 4 days at a time, 3-5 times per year.
