Company and Project Overview: 

Flatpage is an editorial agency and publishing house, begun in 2022, that is dedicated to empowering writers and promoting ideas. We are at the initial stages of creating a blog, initiated by Flatpage cofounder and doctor David Hariri, that addresses social and healthcare issues related to Transgender individuals, from medical procedures written by experts to personal experiences written by patients. Our goal is to create a platform that amplifies voices, educates, and advocates for the Trans community that we will eventually transform into a printed publication.

Position Overview: 

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable editor specializing in Trans issues to help conceptualize and run our blog alongside David Hariri. The ideal candidate will be responsible for strategizing content, recruiting writers and interview subjects, and editing content that is informative, insightful, and engaging, catering to the needs and interests of the Trans community, particularly related to healthcare issues.

Responsibilities:

• Content strategy: Curate and edit compelling blog content focusing on Trans-related social and healthcare issues, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and sensitivity.
• Research and stay updated: Stay abreast of the latest developments, research, and discussions within the Trans community and healthcare, integrating current trends and perspectives into blog content.
• Writer recruitment: Recruit writers, contributors, and subject matter experts to produce high-quality and diverse content or interviews. Examples might include leading surgeons, social workers, psychologists, healthcare advocates, and members of the Trans community.
• Community engagement: Establish and maintain direct connections and networks within the Trans community to gather authentic stories, experiences, and perspectives.
• Editorial guidance: Provide guidance and support to writers, ensuring content aligns with the company's mission and resonates with the target audience.
• SEO optimization: Implement SEO best practices to increase visibility and reach of blog content.

Qualifications:

• Passionate advocate: Strong passion for Trans-related issues with a deep understanding and empathy for the community's challenges and needs.
• Trans issue expertise: Extensive knowledge and expertise in Trans issues, particularly within healthcare.
• Community network: Direct involvement and established connections within the Trans community, demonstrating a strong network of contacts and resources.
• Independence: Excitement and eagerness to contribute to a new initiative, bringing innovative ideas and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Requirements:

• Excellent editing/writing skills: Proficient in content editing, copyediting/proofreading, and creating engaging content with impeccable grammar and style.
• Clear communication: Ability to communicate and collaborate on a regular basis and in a clear and direct manner.
• Empathy and sensitivity: Ability to approach sensitive topics with empathy, ensuring content is respectful and inclusive.
• Time management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Tech savvy: Familiarity with online content management systems (CMS), SEO practices, and basic graphic design tools is a plus.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Location and hours: 

Fully remote with a flexible schedule; approximately 5-10 hours per week. Must be available for once or twice per week early afternoon Eastern time and/or weekend meetings with David Hariri. Must be based in the US.
