Major duties of this position include:
- Serves as a Certifying Officer for weekly, terminal, and expedited compensation and medical payments. Assists the Senior Fiscal Operations Specialist's in collaboration with the bill processing agent to ensure bill processing reports are accurate, to resolve
substantive problems with data, and to ensure weekly compensation benefits are paid to medical bill providers and claimants. - Identifies potential instances of fraud and/or abuse in billing practices. Educates service providers, vendors and others as needed, regarding payment practices and related issues.
- Serves as a secondary point of contact between the BMB/Medical Bill Processing Unit and the US Treasury to identify and resolve payment issues within the unit or between organizations.
Serves as liaison with District Office and National Office staff, answering questions and resolving issues found during annual financial audits of compensation and medical bill payment systems and processes. Implements audit team recommendations. - Analyzes fiscal operations and, as necessary, assists with the development of procedures and processes to help prevent internal fraud and abuse, and improve accountability and efficiency, e.g., for the repayment of duplicate checks, to follow-up tracers for lost checks, to minimize over-or-under payments, etc.
