How You Will Contribute
The Marketing Copywriter will conceptualize and develop compelling narratives about the museum’s collections, offerings and exhibitions for a variety of different media platforms and audiences. The Marketing Copywriter will work closely with key museum stakeholders across various departments to draft, edit and adapt copy from a variety of sources for use in omnichannel distribution.

Specifically, you will:

  • Work as an integral part of the Marketing and Communications team, reporting to the Design Director, to produce headlines, body copy, short and long-form copy for a variety of PMA touch points across different media channels (web, emails, mobile, blog entries, brochures, video, print, social etc.) in support of the museum’s broader marketing initiatives.
  • Create, edit, proofread, and provide feedback on written copy drafted by key stakeholders.
  • Emphasize Brand standards and brand voice and work with colleagues to create copy based on tone of voice guidelines as well as our in-house editorial style guide.
  • Use the brand voice to build a relationship with current and new audiences (aid in audience development).
  • Build and manage communication calendars / schedules for writing projects via virtual ticket / Studio manager.
  • Work with outside freelance writers to ensure tone of voice consistency and delivery of on brand copy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Your background and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Health Communications, Marketing or Journalism or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of content creation and copywriting experience. Ideally, some experience with art museums or not for profit cultural arts organizations.
  • Exceptional written communication, script writing, copywriting, and proofing skills.
  • A deep understanding of best practices for brand voice copywriting and the unique challenges involved for optimizing for different media (e.g. website, video/audio scripts, digital in-gallery interactives, social media, etc).
  • Experience taking complicated info and concepts and making them relatable, approachable, friendly and easy to digest.
  • Ability to vary up the tone, language and style depending on the audience.
  • First-rate storyteller that delivers the right content to the right people in the right format (Omnichannel marketing experience).
  • Ability to get feedback from multiple sources and integrate feedback into final product.
  • Can roll with the punches to meet competing, and sometimes changing, deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Great attitude and a team player (not just a footnote but part of who you are).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word.
  • Interested in, or an interest in learning about, art and the art world.
  • A portfolio (to be presented) that represents a diverse body of creative communications and writing samples. Ideally examples of omnichannel writing assignments.

Position and Compensation Details

  • The minimum salary for this position is $50,000.
  • This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • This position reports to the Director of Design.

Physical requirements:

  • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
