- Serve as an agency pharmaceutical technical expert and consultant responsible for overseeing the OWCP PBM. Use expertise in pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, and pharmacoeconomics to provide advice regarding therapeutics and the economics of drug treatments.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to specify requirements for and evaluate proposals to acquire PBM services and provide oversight for PBM services provided under contract to the OWCP.
- Serve as the agency technical expert, reviewing and approving or rejecting PBM contractor recommendations regarding benefit design and business rules, formularies, formulary parameters, development and implementation of OWCP processes for proposed formulary changes, exclusion lists, fraud waste and abuse monitoring functions, drug claim monitoring, and other functions, which will become OWCP policy regarding the authorization of and reimbursement for pharmaceuticals.
- Provide advice and guidance on safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals and optimization of drug treatment to improve healthcare outcomes. Utilize pharmaceutical knowledge and scientific judgement to determine the adequacy of clinical documentation.
- Remain current on new developments in drug products and their applications, provides advice and guidance on anticipated drug therapeutics and safety issues. Recommend best pharmaceutical practices in the treatment of workers' compensation health issues. Serve as a consultant on matters pertaining to clinical pharmacy and patient safety.
- Serve as an expert and consultant for unusual patient care cases and may review and offer expert opinions regarding exceptions to policy for individual, problematic and/or unique patient cases.
