Job Summary

This producer job is an in-person opportunity working out of Salon’s New York, NY studio. This position is responsible for producing, writing, scheduling, and assisting with booking for Salon’s digital video program. This includes Salon’s interview show (Salon Talks), videos for social media, reporter videos and audio projects. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter who thrives in a deadline-driven environment and has some experience in journalism and digital media. This producer is an impeccable writer, fact-checker and researcher. This position reports to the Executive Producer and is a full-time position with benefits covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, pitch and book experts, celebrities and political leaders for Salon’s digital shows and videos
  • Maintain booking communications from pitch to execution in a timely, orderly fashion
  • Monitor emerging entertainment projects (for example: TV shows, films and books) and keep and applicable dates
  • Publish digital media work on a per assignment, per deadline basis and communicate during each part of the creative process, and revising assignments as needed
  • Closely monitor news, trends, and the larger landscape of media, technology and culture to stay knowledgeable about pertinent developments
  • Generate original, creative ideas for emerging editorial projects at the company, upon request and in close collaboration with supervisor

  • Visibly attend and contribute to departmental and editorial meetings and staff trainings, and stay current on Salon’s editorial best practices
  • Help maintain Salon’s studio space

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Video, Journalism, Film or related field
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in digital media or TV
  • Strong editorial judgment with an understanding of news, politics and entertainment
  • Closely follows and monitors social media trends and platforms
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills and the ability to receive critical feedback in a small team environment
  • Highly organized and able to problem solve on the fly
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and under close direction of the executive producer

Salary Range: $68,000 - $75,000 a year
