Global Philanthropy Project

Global Philanthropy Project (GPP) seeks a Program Officer to coordinate two ambitious grantmaker task forces. This Program Officer will lead the launch and development of a new task force on philanthropic response to “anti-gender ideology” and will lead our ongoing task force on Trans and Intersex Funding.

This is a full-time and remote staff position.

About GPP

Global Philanthropy Project (GPP) is a collaboration of funders and philanthropic advisors working to expand global philanthropic support to advance the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people in the Global South and East.

Established in 2009, GPP’s 21 member organizations include many of the leading global funders and philanthropic advisors for LGBTI rights.  As the first international cohort of LGBTI funders, GPP is internationally recognized as the primary thought leader and go-to partner for donor coordination around global LGBTI work.

GPP is a key source of strategic research and analysis for global LGBTI funders. GPP also plays a central role in convening philanthropists and human rights activists for opportunities to increase knowledge, skills, and capacity towards expanding global LGBTI funding. These convening spaces include donor pre-conferences during regional LGBTI convenings, funder webinars, and report release events. GPP is organized through a core Executive Committee and a number of thematic working groups, program-focused advisory groups, and is currently developing regional grantmaker task forces.

Job Description

GPP seeks a full-time staff person to coordinate two ambitious GPP Task Forces.

Responding to Anti-Gender Ideology

Lead and develop the Responding to Anti-Gender Ideology (RAGI) Task Force. Building on years of ongoing programmatic work, the task force will launch in Q3 2021. The new program officer will work with constituents to further develop an existing two-year plan towards efforts to strengthen and expand philanthropic support for a robust, coordinated, and well-informed philanthropic response to “anti-gender ideology” forces that transcends and connects across philanthropic sectors.

The program officer will organize and mobilize task force members to participate regularly and meaningfully, managing communications, budget, tracking of goals and action items, and produce regular reporting to GPP staff and membership.

Taskforce activities are anticipated to include regular meetings, regional desk review/research needs assessment, and the commissioning of new research, providing support for grantmakers new to these issues, producing public programming (i.e. webinars, and prepare or present at relevant conferences and other opportunities), and more. The position is supported by project funding for up to two years.

Trans and Intersex Task Force

Through our long-time, Trans and Intersex Funding Working Group (which will become a task force once staffed), GPP and our member organizations have developed new research and have supported collaborative funding efforts towards mobilizing increased funding and influencing the types of funding dedicated to global intersex and trans issues and built new funding mechanisms. The working group is lead by trans and intersex grantmakers.

This position may include international travel.

The task force work plan includes:

  • Engaging the leading funders of trans and intersex issues across the world to continue to maintain, diversify, and increase their funding levels of support over the next two years.

  • Identifying opportunities to integrate trans and intersex communities as priority populations within major new funding streams responding to COVID-19.

This task force is limited to GPP members. The principal participants of this task force include private and public foundations and currently funding responses to Trans and Intersex Communities and those exploring or designing programs of support.
