How You Will Contribute
The Retail Store Manager (RSM) is responsible for training, motivating, mentoring and supervising the Retail Sales Associates in all Museum Store locations, ensuring they are achieving excellent customer service results and established earned revenue goals. You will work closely with Buyers, Visual Merchandising Associate, and the Retail Operations/Planning Manager in ensuring the overall store operations are achieved. You will oversee the sales staff assigned to the retail location to ensure they are engaged and proactive with maintaining the experience standards for the retail offer and are using best practices for sales and making the guest feel welcome in each space. You will be up to date on the mix of merchandise in the store locations and are well versed in the activities and collection highlights throughout the museum, sharing this product knowledge with their team.
Specifically, you will:
- Oversee the Sales and Operations of the Retail stores and the execution efforts of the Retail Sales team to achieve budgeted revenue goals.
- Oversee staff scheduling, bank deposits, cash handling procedures and payroll.
- Work with Visual Merchandising Associate to maintain proper inventory levels on floor so that appearance is neat, clean, and well stocked.
- Set minimums with Visual Merchandising Associate for all in store stock positions.
- Mentor and coach Retail Sales Associates to create the best customer service experience, while achieving sales goals. Trains team members on upselling.
- Collaborate with Director of Retail, Visual Merchandising Associate and Buyers to concept key presentations/floor changes related to exhibitions ensuring maximization of revenue opportunities.
- Communicate noticeable sales trends and proactively makes suggestions regarding product placement to optimize sales.
- Visit the Museum floor regularly to keep abreast of current exhibitions and collection gallery rotations to help inform merchandise mix as well as training for sales team.
- Responsible for maintaining staff discipline procedures related to time and attendance as well as performance-based interactions when needed.
- Work closely with Merchants on new buys, providing input where needed.
- Coordinate with Operations/Planning manager to maintain store equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your background and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), with a specialization in business, retail, hospitality and/or foodservices management preferred.
- Demonstrate creative mindset for design in a retail or other product-based environment.
- 5 years or greater demonstrating successful experience in managing individuals in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
Position and Compensation Details
- The salary for this position is $50,000.
- This position is full-time, exempt, and 35 hours per week.
- This position will require the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position reports to the Retail Operations/Planning Manager
Physical requirements:
- Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
- Ability to move up to 50 lbs.
- COVID-19 vaccination required.
- Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
