Science News Writer / Science News Officer

The Science News Officer reports to the Associate Director for News. As a member of the News Group in the University of Pennsylvania's central University Communications Office, the science news officer will cover assigned "beats" (Physics & Astronomy, Chemistry, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and other centers, departments or Schools as assigned) with a minimum of supervision and on a regular basis to become familiar with programs and personnel involved to meet editorial deadlines. The science news officer will source and write news releases to pitch national, regional and local media and source, pitch and write news articles and feature stories for campus print, electronic and multi-media news formats including the Penn website; Penn Today, a news daily e-zine that aggregates news across the University for campus and external audiences; and Research@Penn, a publication highlighting Penn's role as a premier research University.
