Primary Function

The Shop Floor Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily store operations at the Barnes Foundation and Calder Gardens. The position is responsible for the sales floor, the presentation of product, overseeing and fulfilling ecommerce orders, and the delivery of consistent and superior customer service. Work with Shop Manager to implement Shop policies and procedures and maintain a team-oriented environment that reflects the Foundation’s educational mission and core values.

Job Qualifications

  • Customer Service experience required, preferably in a museum, specialty store, bookstore or other high-volume retail
  • 1-2 years leadership experience
  • Must be able to operate a computerized point-of-sale system
  • Strong verbal, telephone, email, and general communication skills

Clearances:  Criminal Background-National

Moving:

  • Ability to stand and walk for 8-hour shifts with minimal rest breaks.  
  • Approximately 90%+ of worked time is spent standing or moving around the work area. 
  • Ability to occasionally transport up to 25 lbs. of files, equipment or supplies.  Ability to move to access files, equipment or supplies.

Vision Requirements:

  • This position requires extended time on the computer.

Communication Requirements:  

  • Clearly communicate in person, by phone, and by video conference.  
  • Communicate with others in conversational and written English. 

Working Conditions:

  • Position operates in the foundation’s buildings and on the foundation’s grounds at the Philadelphia campus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for efficient and safe Shop opening and closing; delegates opening and closing tasks as appropriate to Sales Specialists and Senior Sales Specialists.
  • Oversees proper functioning of POS system and execution of correct register and sales procedures by other staff members. Responsible for cash accountability, prepares change requests and performs cash deposits, reconciliation, and internal transfers.
  • Works with Shop Manager, and other staff to maintain the selling floor in a fully stocked and visually presentable condition.
  • Works with Sales Specialists to achieve Shop sales goals and membership sales goals.
  • Supervises and trains Sales Specialists and PT seasonal staff on Shop policies and processes.
  • Leads meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Maintains a knowledge of products, collections, Foundation and vendors. Ensures the delivery of accurate artist/vendor and product information to other staff and customers.
  • Delivers consistent levels of customer service that reflect favorably on the Foundation and the Shop. Assists other employees in the execution of high-quality customer service practices. Provides leadership and guidance to Specialists for non-routine inquiries and difficulties.
  • Ensures Sales Specialists know about current specials, promotions (member and seasonal), programs, and events.
  • Assists the Merchandise Manager with Barnes and Calder Gardens online store maintenance which includes creating listings, managing online inventory, and order fulfillment
  • Communicates to managers problems, ideas, and questions from customers and sales staff. 
  • Works open shifts including evening and weekend hours.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Shop Manager.
