The Barnes Foundation

Primary Function:  

The part-time Teaching Artist will be responsible for delivering afterschool arts-based programming for PreK-4th grade learners enrolled at Barnes partner school, Community Partnership School, through an informal learning initiative designed by the Barnes’s Community Engagement Department. Additional in-classroom support will be provided by school administration. The program is active from January through June, and the schedule is every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6pm.  This position pays $65/hour and we anticipate an average weekly schedule of six to eight hours per week for preparation, instruction and evaluation.

Education/Training/Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in art education, museum education or related field and 2 years' work experience in community arts or cultural institutions OR high school/some college and 2 to 4 years' work experience in community arts or cultural institutions;
  • Administrative and/or teaching experience in community youth and family settings in museums, community-based agencies or schools. Background in arts education preferred. 
  • Experience developing curricula, activities, and lessons geared toward early childhood learners.  
  • Ability to work across diverse groups, including external program partners and caregivers in learning environments.
  • Strong interest in community partnerships and arts as a pathway for equity and social justice. 
  • Successful clearance of background criminal check, fingerprinting, and other required state and federal child clearances. 
  • Strong written and communication skills 
  • Trauma-informed and trauma responsive training are a plus

Licenses/Certifications:  

  • Criminal Background-National
  • Criminal Background for work with children -National Child Abuse, FBI, PA PATCH.
  • MVR Driving Record Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demand Analysis:    

  • Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 40 lbs.   
  • Visual Requirements:  Computer use; must be able to use email 
  • Hearing Requirements:  Phone use
  • Working Conditions:  Position operates in an environment that is generally free of noise, dust, temperature extremes or other hazards; may work in environments without elevators
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license or be able to take public transport to/from school sites
