About Save the Music:

Founded in 1997, Save The Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps students, schools, and communities reach their full potential through the power of making music. For 25 years, Save The Music (STM) has addressed the systemic inequities in music education by investing in culturally rich communities across the US. Since its inception, STM has donated $68M worth of instruments and technology to over 2,500 schools – impacting millions of students' lives in hundreds of communities nationwide.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and execute an annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the executive director

• Manage accurate organizational forecasting to inform decision-making

• Work closely with our outside accounting partner to compile, analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate quarterly and annual financial statements to senior management; prepare financial reporting materials for the board and large donors, and oversee all accounting by program and/or grant

• Coordinate the annual financial audit process, working with external auditors and the audit committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary

• Improve systems and processes for the team to report on key operating metrics such as grant delivery, digital & social media growth, and community impact

• Effectively communicate and present critical financial information to the board of directors

• Work closely and transparently with external service providers and other vendors including Paramount Global (office space, IT, financial services) and STM’s PEO provider (payroll, benefits) to facilitate payments and other services to staff, partners and vendors

• Further develop Save The Music’s human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting as the organization scales

• Ensure that recruiting and onboarding processes are consistent and streamlined

• Establish and manage a comprehensive training program to educate employees regarding staff tools, policies, and procedures

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working in an operations role with financial oversight for at least 7 years, with demonstrated experience managing budgets and forecasts

• Deep experience using Excel for monthly financial modeling, KPI tracking, reporting, and compliance

• A proactive approach for ensuring consistency and accuracy of financial data

• Ability to evaluate finances, reports, and tools effectively to enable decision making

• Experience building systems for establishing clear roles, feedback, and professional development

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and build trust with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

• A track record of creating and building new systems, processes, and policies to make the work more efficient

• Experience building processes for human resources including onboarding, professional development, and performance management helpful but not required

• Working knowledge of nonprofit grant administration, compliance, and auditing helpful, but not required

• Dedication to the mission of Save the Music to help students, schools, and communities reach their full potential through the power of making music

More Information

Location: New York City metro area or willing to relocate. We have a hybrid work schedule during the school year where we work together on Mondays and Tuesdays in our Manhattan-based office.

Salary: $115,000 - $130,000. This is a full-time exempt position.
